Sir Richard Wallace

On street corners and in squares, Wallace fountains have enriched Paris’s heritage since 1872. Today, there are 107 of them in the capital. We owe them to the generosity of Richard Wallace (1818-1890), collector and philanthropist. He had witnessed the water shortage during the siege of Paris and the Commune in 1871. He lived in Bagatelle and housed his collection there.

Le roman de Bagatelle, de l’époque à nos jours

The result of a crazy bet between Marie-Antoinette and her brother-in-law, the Comte d’Artois, Bagatelle was built in 70 days. The château became a mecca for pleasure and festivities, welcoming many crowned heads. The last occupant was Sir Richard Wallace, before the town acquired it in the early 20th century.

This book is sold in support of the restoration of the Château de Bagatelle.

Invitation enclosed.

Free admission.

Conference in French.
