Tuesday, 17 October 2023 – CONFERENCE Ellen Hampton, on her book: Doctors at war

Tuesday, October 17, 6.30 pm

Mairie du XVIe
71 avenue Henri Martin, 75016 Paris

As part of the Mardis de la Mémoire organised by the Mairie du XVIème, you will find attached the invitation to the conference given by Ellen Hampton, historian and member of our chapter, and Patrice Debré, Member of the Académie de Médecine and Professor at Sorbonne University, on Ellen’s book, “Doctors at War: the clandestine battle against the Nazi occupation of France”.

Doctors at War tells the stories of physicians in France working to impede the German war effort and undermine French collaborators during the Occupation from 1940 to 1945, a dramatic, character-driven account of physicians’ courage and resilience in the face of evil.

Their stories add a crucial dimension to the history of Occupied France, as a window into life under a fascist regime and the travails of doctors who negotiated the terrifying moral labyrinth of the German military’s occupation of France.

Free admission.
