France-Amériques
9, avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt – Paris 8ème

The Cercle France-Amériques, in partnership with the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR France), the Society of Cincinnati in France and the Rochambeau Chapter, NSDAR, will host a conference and book signing with Florence Prudhomme, historian and marine archaeologist. She and co-author Col. Thierry Moné, will present their work on a Revolutionary-era shipwreck in their book “Un Dragon au service du Roi, les destinées maritimes du chevalier de l’Espine, de 1778 à 1793.”

Knight of Malta and officer in the Navy of Louis XVI, L’Espine participated in the American War of Independence. On Wednesday, January 22, 1783, on the coast of what is now the Dominican Republic, a veritable chase took place at the end of which Chevalier Joseph de L’Espine blew up his corvette, the Dragon, to prevent it from falling into the hands of the eighteen-ship squadron of British Rear Admiral Samuel Hood.

More than 200 years later, Florence Prudomme explored the damaged ruins of the ship and, in her doctoral thesis, revealed how she identified it as the Dragon and tied it to the career of L’Espine.

Participation : 25€ per person.
The conference will be followed by a cocktail.
Conference in French.
