Monday, 13 February 2023 – THEATRE “The Conquerors” by Jean-Mathieu Deschenes

Organized by the Cercle France-Amériques

Monday, February 13, 2023, 7:00 pm

9, avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt – Paris 8ème

The Cercle France-Amériques, in partnership with the association Amitiés France-Acadie, invites us to an evening of theatre. The play “Les conquérants” pays tribute to the exceptional men and women who made “French America” in the 17th century.

It is a historical plunge into the time when New France represented more than a third of the surface of the North American continent, from Newfoundland to the Great Lakes region, from Hudson Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. The play is set in Quebec City in 1672, shortly after Louis XIV appointed the Count of Frontenac as Governor General of New France. He will clash with the religious authorities embodied by Monseigneur Laval, the first bishop of New France. These men, who are in complete opposition, will confront each other for nearly a quarter of a century under the watchful eye of a Canadian pioneer, Marguerite Bourgeoys.

Author: Jean-Mathieu Deschenes; Director: Patrice Carpuat; Performance: Patrice Carpuat, Florence Cabes, Alain Dubos.

The performance (duration 1h30) will be followed by a friendly drink.

Participation: 35€ per person (25€ for members of the Cercle).
