Dear Daughters,

The Société en France des Fils de la Révolution Américaine has extended an invitation from the Société de l’histoire de Paris et de l’Île-de-France, to attend a lecture given by Patrick Villiers, Professor Emeritus of Modern History at the Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale and Vice-President of the Société française d’histoire maritime: “Le vaisseau de 1er rang la Ville de Paris et la guerre d’Indépendance américaine”.

Under Louis XIV and during the first part of the reign of Louis XV, French warships bore the names of royal qualities: Conquérant, Orgueilleux, Soleil Royal, etc. From 1762 onwards, provincial names were used, as well as city names, notably Ville de Paris. What type of ship was the Ville de Paris? Where was she built? What role did she play in the victorious War of Independence?
From the victory at Ouessant to the victory on the Chesapeake, Professor Patrick Villiers will take us through the various sea campaigns in which the Ville de Paris played a key role.

Free conference, registration by e-mail to inscriptions@shpif.fr
Conference in French.

Warm regards,

Catherine
